Every Scout Deserves a Trained Leader
If you had a magic wand, would you use it to make the Scouting program better and more fun for youth so they stayed in Scouting longer, so it had a larger impact on their lives? What if the same magic wand made leadership roles easier, more rewarding, and led to better retention among adult leaders? Would using that magic wand be a top priority?
Well, such a magic wand does exist—in the form of the learning programs for leaders in Scouting America.
Common sense tells us that training is important, and research shows the importance of trained leaders. A trained leader is knowledgeable and more confident in the role being performed. Trained leaders exhibit a knowledge and confidence that is picked up by people around them. Trained leaders impact the quality of programs, leader tenure, youth tenure, safety, and a whole lot more. A trained leader is better prepared to make the Scouting program all it can be!
These pages contain many of the “magic wands” and resources. Scout them out!
Upcoming Training Event:
Eagle Project Reviewer Training prepares volunteers to help Life Scouts successfully plan and complete their Eagle Scout service projects in accordance with the guidelines of Scouting America. Participants will learn how to review proposals, provide constructive feedback, and support youth leadership while ensuring projects meet the standards outlined in the Guide to Advancement. This free training is ideal for adults willing to work with Life Scouts—either in person or virtually—over the next two years, helping them develop meaningful projects, avoid common pitfalls, and successfully reach the rank of Eagle Scout.
Leader Specific Training provides essential, position-based instruction for adult volunteers serving in Cub Scout packs, Scouts BSA troops, and Venturing crews. This interactive training is led by experienced instructors and offers practical guidance tailored to each leadership role, helping participants build confidence and deliver a strong, youth-focused Scouting program. Leaders should attend to better understand their responsibilities, learn program best practices, connect with other volunteers, and gain practical tools that make meetings, outings, and advancement more successful. Attendees will also receive a Scoutbook Plus overview and enjoy light refreshments while networking with fellow leaders.
